Logan, Utah -- April 2, 2003. Today Iodynamics announced the inauguration of a completely redesigned UtahISPs.com.
The UtahISPs.com website, also known as the Utah ISP List, is a self-monitored listing of independent Internet service providers (ISPs) serving customers in Utah. The site began in 1994 as a grass-roots effort to assist the Utah Internet community by helping users make informed decisions about Internet service for their homes and businesses.
UtahISPs.com is provided to Utah residents as a free service of Iodynamics, a northern-Utah-based networking and web services firm. The most obvious improvement to the site is its striking new visual appearance. With red-rock imagery, a new logo, and a completely revamped color scheme, the site now has a look and feel that is distinctly Utahn. But the front-end is only one aspect of the revision. Improved scripts and a faster database interface mean that the site will provide visitors with better information in less time.
The UtahISPs.com story began when Doran Barton, Iodynamics' president, began posting information about local ISPs on Utah-oriented newsgroups. It wasn't long before this data was collected and made public on a simple website.
The static nature of the original site soon became a problem. “It eventually was just too cumbersome to maintain all of that information in-house,” Barton said. “So we rolled it into a database, and provided a facility for the ISPs themselves to update the information.” Each ISP is responsible for updating service and pricing information for its own listing, through a series of dynamic forms. This information, once entered, is immediately available to site visitors.
The self-monitoring nature of UtahISPs.com means that the accuracy of the information rests on the shoulders of the service providers listed there. “We encourage all Utah ISPs to check the site periodically to make sure all of their information is correct,” Barton said. Iodynamics also encourages ISPs to link to UtahISPs.com. Not only will this allow prospective customers to compare services and features, it will also improve the list's rankings in search engines, driving additional customers to the service providers on the list.
Since its establishment in 1998, Iodynamics has provided network and programming consulting to clients throughout northern Utah. Iodynamics specializes in using free software and open-source software to create stable, innovative, and inexpensive solutions for small to medium-sized businesses. At the same time, Iodynamics uses widely accepted and commonly used programming and network conventions to build systems that are easy to use and maintain.
