EK Ekcessories Launches New Website
Logan, Utah--August 1, 2002. Today Ed Kalbach, President and CEO of EK Ekcessories, announced the inauguration of the company's completely renovated corporate and commercial website.
The new site features an online store that was redesigned from the ground up. "We needed to provide our customers with a better way to find the products they want," said Kalbach. "We wanted them to be able to navigate to a product, choose the pattern or material they want, and then order it without any hassles."
The incredible variety of materials and patterns used in EK's products posed some unique challenges. With a dizzying array of almost 200 different products, many of them offered in dozens of different styles, the potential for user confusion was staggering. This required major re-thinking to create an e-commerce mechanism that is both powerful and easy to use.
Other improvements include the implementation of a powerful search facility, which allows customers to search for products by keyword, and the addition of new material about EK's licensed, privately labeled, and OEM products.
Design and programming for the new site was done by Iodynamics, a Cache Valley-based programming and consulting company that specializes in Internet applications. "We like to think of a website as an employee, and EK was ready to fire theirs," said Doran Barton, president of Iodynamics. Faced with the issues with the current site architecture, Barton and the Iodynamics team knew a simple facelift would not be enough.
To ensure that the final site would be stable and secure, and to reduce both short- and long-term cost of ownership, Iodynamics used open source tools such as Apache, PostgreSQL, and Perl. "Using open source applications means our clients get much more website for their dollar," said Barton.
The new website has been handling customer orders and requests for information since the site went live. EK Ekcessories' home page is at http://www.ekusa.com.
